I first met Gene in Delhi in 1970 at the Ambassador Hotel. His loving encouragement started me on the path. Gene’s work has been the prime motivation for so many Tibetan scholars and he opened the doors to Tibetan literature wide with his generous spirit. Gene, you will be sorely missed but your legacy will keep on being added to, as you were one of the great foundation blocks.
